We have joined the Tech Talent Charter
We are delighted to share that we are now a part of the Tech Talent Charter - a government supported, industry-led membership group created to tackle diversity and inclusion disparities in the UK.
TTC’s goal is for the UK tech ecosystem to be a diverse and inclusive community where people from all backgrounds are welcomed and valued for their contributions. This ties in with one of our key values at The Developer Academy as we aim to provide individuals from all backgrounds the opportunity to find jobs within the tech industry. Being part of the Tech Talent Charter community gives us access to networks and resources to drive these diversity and inclusion efforts.
Key statistics found by techUK:
- BCS: The Chartered Institute of IT (2020): In the last quarter of 2020 women made up 19% of the UK IT industry.
- Tech Nation (2021): People from ethnic minorities marginally make up a larger share of the technology workforce than they do the wider UK workforce, 11.8% for all occupations, and 15.2% for tech.
- 19% of the UK working population has a disability yet only 9% of IT specialists in the UK have a disability.
TTC CEO Debbie Forster, MBE: “The importance of greater diversity and inclusion in tech is, thankfully, no longer up for debate. Sectors and organisations now need to work together to shift the dial – and this will happen faster if we pool our successes, failures, and key learnings to bring about real structural change.”
We are happy to be a part of 700+ Signatory organisations driving change within the UK Tech industry and are excited for what the future holds!
